Anjali Jul 2, 2022 News

The Jim Corbett National Park is located in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India and is home to a variety of wildlife, including tigers, leopards, elephants, and rhinos.

The park is home to a large number of tigers and is a popular tourist destination.

History of Jim Corbett National Park

The Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand was named after the British hunter and conservationist Edward James Corbett, famously known as Jim Corbett, who was born in 1875 in Nanital and played a key role in its establishment.

Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest park in India and it was established in 1936. This park has a history of renaming it many times.

The park was originally named the Hailey National Park after the British governor of the United Provinces, Sir William Malcolm Hailey.

For some time during 1954-55, it was named Ramganga National Park, but it was again renamed Corbett National Park during 1955-56.

It was renamed Jim Corbett National Park in 1957 in honour of Corbett’s work in the area.

However, in recent years, there has been a push to change the park’s name to the Ramganga national park. This has been met with mixed reactions from the public.

Jim Corbett National Park New Name Change

The park was in the news recently when the Director of Jim Corbett National Park told the Media that the union minister for environment, forest and climate change, Ashwani Kumar Choubey who visited Jim Corbett National Park on October 3 said that the name of this national park will be changed to Ramganga National Park.

On the one hand, some feel that the park should be named after its most iconic feature, the Ramganga river. And as this park is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, which is home to a large number of Hindu pilgrims.

As a result, many people believe that the park should be renamed something that reflects the local culture and history.

They argue that this would be more reflective of the park’s natural beauty and would be more marketable to tourists. According to the officials of the Park approximately 3 lakh tourists visit this national park every year and the park earns around Rs. 10 crores from tourism.

On the other hand, some feel that the park should retain its original name in honour of Jim Corbett.

They argue that he was instrumental in saving the park from development and that changing the name would be a slap in the face to his legacy.

Whereas some people believe that the park should retain its original name, as it is a well-known tourist destination. Others believe that the name change would be a positive step towards promoting cultural sensitivity.

There has been much debate over the park’s name change, with some people arguing that it is a form of political correctness and that the park should be renamed back to its original name.

The politics of the name change are complex, but it is generally believed that the change was made to appease the hunter and conservationist community, who were strong supporters of Jim Corbett.

The issue surrounding the name change seems complex, and it remains to be seen whether or not the park’s name will be changed.

Official Statement About Name Change of the Park

The news about changing the national park name went viral and wildlife lovers were not happy about it. However, there was not an official proposal to change the park’s name.

After this news surfaced, Uttarakhand forest minister Harak Singh Rawat issued an official statement stating that there will not be any change in the national park name.
